Dual Language
Hibbard Dual Language Program
Hibbard is a two-way Dual Language School in the Albany Park neighborhood. We strive to support the whole child in an inclusive, biliterate, diverse community.

There are two types of Dual Language programs offered to K-8 students: one-way and two-way programs.

HIbbard offers a two-way Dual Language programs, students receive core instruction (language arts, math, science, social science) through a second language with the goal of all students becoming bilingual and biliterate in both Spanish and English.

In addition to core instruction, all ELs enrolled in a Dual Language Program receive English Language Development instruction, and all native-English-speaking
students receive Language Development instruction in the partner language (e.g., Spanish Language Development) to improve their proficiency in the new language. Students also have the opportunity to continue Dual Language programming in high school (at Back of the Yards HS, Roosevelt HS, and Schurz HS) so that they have a greater opportunity to develop literacy skills and fluency in both languages.
The 4 Pillars of Dual Language
Watch this short video by Deborah K. Palmer who questions how we can build an anti-racist education system and advocates for the introduction of a 4th goal which explicitly addresses the need for an anti-racist orientation within schools, centring marginalised voices and building a just future for all.
